CLARIAH-AT is the consortium of Austrian universities, research and GLAM institutions that coordinates and drives Austrian activities in the European ESFRI research infrastructures CLARIN-ERIC (Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure) and DARIAH-EU (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities). The consortium brings together 11 Austrian institutions with relevant expertise in research, development and teaching in the field of Digital Humanities as well as in the establishment and sustainable operation of research (data) infrastructures, which play an active role in the Austrian development of Digital Humanities and the establishment and expansion of technical and social infrastructures for the humanities in general.
Through collaboration and sharing of expertise and resources, CLARIAH-AT aims to foster DH research and engagement with digital academic resources, not only among scholars and professionals but also the general public. CLARIAH-AT activities, services and expertise are aimed at and open to the entire Austrian Digital Humanities community, regardless of their affiliation to one of the CLARIAH-AT consortium partner institutions.

With our poster we are showcasing Austrian efforts to establish a community of practise and engagement, alongside the following central strategic framework:

i) the Digital Humanities Austria (DHA) Strategy:
The consortium authored a vision for the further development of Austrian Digital Humanities, along the four respective core areas of (a) Research infrastructures and networks, (b) Research data and repositories, (c) Methods, services and tools and (d) Education, training and knowledge transfer. This strategy paper serves as the base for all following pillars below.

ii) project funding
Thanks to the financial support of the Austrian Ministry for Women, Science and Research (BMFWF) dedicated to CLARIAH-AT and the consortium’s membership fees, a wide range of projects could be realised via dedicated funding calls (2022 - 2025): Several projects of 2022 and 2023 are completed successfully, while projects from 2024 and 2025 are about to be completed until the end of 2026 latest.

iii) funding opportunities for early career researchers
CLARIAH-AT dedicated funds to support early career researchers, based at an Austrian institution, to carry out their research in the field of Digital Humanities and/or Cultural Heritage, in the form of Transkribus Scholarships, a license pool for software and travel grants.

vi) events:
In order to foster, engage and skill up the community, CLARIAH-AT organises workshops, schools and other training events. In particular, since 2023 the CLARIAH-AT Summer School is held each year in a different location in Austria, with a different thematic focus:

• Vienna, 2023: ExploreSalon

• Salzburg, 2024: Vom Archiv zum Algorithmus. Digital Humanities in der Praxis.

• Graz, 2025: Machine Learning for Digital Scholarly Editions

v) other activities:
Members of the consortium are actively involved in various bodies on a European level, which enhances opportunities for collaboration beyond national borders. Particularly noteworthy, next to committee functions of both, CLARIN and DARIAH infrastructures, are DARIAH Working Groups, and several CLARIN-AT Centres. Additionally, University Master Programs and Professors for Digital Humanities were established in Graz, Salzburg and Vienna over the last 9 years.

All activities feed into the national DH strategy mentioned in the beginning.
