Matching Papyri Fragments Using Computer Vision Methods and Graph Networks University of Cologne, Germany The The Crocodile and Human Mummies of Tebtynis: AI-Assisted Reconstruction and Scholarly Editing of Hellenistic Papyri from the Bancroft Library (Berkeley) project is a joined effort by the Institut für Altertumskunde (IfA), the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH) at the University of Cologne, the Seminar für Alte Geschichte / Forschungsstelle Papyrologie at the University Münster and the Center for the Tebtynis Papyri (CTP) at the University of California, Berkeley. The project is funded by the Nordrhein-Westfälische Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Künste for the upcoming 15 years. The Bancroft Library in Berkeley houses, with approximately 20,000 objects, the largest collection of papyri from the Hellenistic period. Only around 1,050 of these have been fully or partially catalogued and published over the past 125 years, or are currently being prepared for publication. The far greater part of the collection consists of papyrus fragments waiting to be indexed, edited and (if possible) joined to reconstruct previously unexplored sources. | |
