Visibility of Institutional Histories: A LOD-Based Approach to a Heterogenous Collection of GDR Museology HTWK Leipzig, Germany This paper presents conceptual considerations for the digitisation and publication of a heterogeneous collection of materials as Linked Open Data (LOD), most of which originated from the holdings of the Technical College for Museologists and is now owned by the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK). The collection includes large-format glass slides, 35mm slides, hanging files on the museum and exhibition holdings of the GDR, and numerous publications on museum work in the GDR. It documents the history and transformation of an institution that began on 1 September 1954 in Köthen as a technical college for museum assistants. Due to a lack of systematic cataloguing and digitisation, the objects in this collection have remained largely invisible to the international scientific community. Along the data lifecycle, the project aims to systematically index the collection and, by combining CIDOC-CRM with Wikidata and Collective Access, to semantically model it, make it accessible and interoperable. | |
