The sustainability of digital scholarly editions remains a critical challenge, with many projects becoming obsolete within a decade due to technical and organizational vulnerabilities. Despite the robust initial infrastructure, digital editions face high obsolescence rates, often outstripping available resources and expertise. The QUEDEE project aims to address this issue by exploring how digital editions can achieve durability comparable to print editions. It proposes a self-contained, low-cost solution using a Raspberry Pi platform, designed to mimic physical features of a book. This approach emphasizes open standards, redundancy, and graceful failure, ensuring longevity through a combination of hardware and software strategies. The project seeks to initiate a broader discussion on the neglected issue of digital edition sustainability and invites feedback to refine its design. A library cooperation is proposed for long-term testing, QUEDEE aims to provide a viable model for durable digital scholarly editions, challenging the current reliance on ephemeral digital infrastructure.
