Phase Contrast and Interference Microscopic Modulation Method for Microbiological Diagnosis 1: Grupo de Ingeniería Biomédica, Universidad de Cantabria, España; 2: Servicio de Microbiología, Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla, España Light propagation and scattering through diffusive media such as oral fluids enables the implementation of Spatial Light Interference Microscopy (SLIM), an advanced optical technique to examine the sample’s surface morphology, bulk composition (i.e., dry mass), and optical properties, among others. Interference microscopy, aided by sample contrast enhancement and beam phase matching, is an appealing possibility for Artificial Intelligence (AI)–improved accuracy determinations when quantitatively imaging microscopic objects. This investigation is intended to provide insight through Quantitative Phase Imaging (QPI) for bacterial infection diagnosis in clinical trials. The spectroscopic test results show the inhibition of the UV spectral portion, which is important for preventing damage to the Spatial Light Modulator (SLM). Preliminary results also show the implementation of an automation process for static systems. Phase-contrast images are also presented at three different magnifications with two different phase ring sizes.
